Dentures are an ideal solution if you have too many teeth missing to place a bridge and dental implants are not a suitable option. Several appointments will be required to ensure your dentures fit snugly. Your dentures are created in our onsite dental laboratory and can be made entirely from acrylic or acrylic fused to a metal base for additional support.
A partial denture is used to replace a few missing teeth either next to each other or missing in various positions. A full denture is used to replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth, or sometimes both.
When you are missing teeth, the contour of your gums can change over time and so your dentures will occasionally require the base to be relined to fit securely and comfortably with your gum-line. Alternatively you may be better served with surgical correction of specific types of issues prior to have the dentures made.
Denture maintenance
Removing your dentures at night allows your gums to rest after supporting your dentures all day and during meals. It’s important to place your dentures in a glass of water or special denture solution to prevent them from drying out, which can alter shape and affect the fit and comfort.
Regular oral health examinations with The Dentists are especially important for people who wear dentures. In those with partial dentures it is essential to have dental appointments to ensure the remaining teeth are maintained so that the dentures can be used. The usual 6 monthly recalls are recommended for those with partial dentures.
Full denture patients do not have to return as often but checkups every 2-4 years would be recommended to ensure infective and other issues have not occurred. It is recommended that full dentures be replaced every 6-8 years.
